Cultural Sweden
Over the years, Swedish culture has been subjected to influences from many different countries, going back to England, Denmark and Norway in the early part of the Middle Ages, and later, Germany, France and, most recently, English-speaking countries. However, within what might be called the overarching national culture, also lie the distinct cultures of each of Sweden’s twenty-five provinces, a phenomenon brought about by their individual and chequered histories, and the Swedish population relates to these as much as it does to any national cultural characteristic.

Winter and the Christmas period in any city is an exciting and beautiful time. London in particular, is a stunning and thrilling place to be during this period. The city gets more than its fair share of snow, meaning the many parks, landmarks, gardens and attractions are covered in a blanket of white, creating picturesque scenes and backdrops for the perfect family photographs. In recent years the west and Islam have endured a fractured relationship. With wars, bombings, protests, revolutions, uprisings, flag burnings, religion mocking and worse it could be argued that the west and Islam are too different to ever be compatible with one another. However, to believe this would be to ignore the overwhelming wealth of evidence that shows how both the Islamic world and the western world have, throughout history, grown together in both war and peace. An example of this is found in the Museum of Islamic art in Palermo, Italy (although the locals would say it’s Sicily!).
